Sr. Optics Engineer:

GES is seeking a highly innovative, passionate and talented Sr. Optics Engineer with experience in Optical Design to join our team. As a member of the Hardware Engineering Team, the Sr. Optics Engineer will contribute directly to the execution of GES technology and product development through developing advanced optical systems for the next generation of optical products to meet highly challenging customer specifications, performing ray tracing, tolerance analysis and optical system optimization for optical components, assemblies and systems. Working on cutting edge solutions, the Sr. Optical Engineer is responsible for a wide array of new product and advanced technology development in support of GES multi-year product and technology roadmaps.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Optical Engineering with strong understanding of optics and optics designs.
  • 5+ years related design experience in precision optical systems, instrumentation and assemblies.
  • Proficiency with ZEMAX and/or CODE V design tools or other optical design programs.
  • Proficiency with any of the following will be a strong plus: MATLAB, LabVIEW and/or JMP.
  • Experience with Optical microscopes, Interferometers, Ellipsometers and Optical Scattering Instruments.
  • Ability to apply basic principles of optical engineering to formulate new concepts and solutions for VIS-IR component and assembly applications.
  • Understanding of tolerancing optical components and error budget allocations.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and can provide clear, concise technical presentations
  • Up to 30% travel may be required


  • Develops designs based on customer inputs and requirements.
  • Prepares product design verification test plans and executes tests that verify designs meet requirements
  • Leads problem solving and troubleshooting for manufacturing and customer problem resolution.
  • Drives technical decisions affecting product systems or subsystems within area of expertise and understands the impact of decisions outside of area of expertise
  • Partners with management on product innovation and systems solutions and leads innovation that results in breakthrough solutions. Serves as a primary liaison on technical capabilities.
  • Provides input to customer proposals, product/technology roadmap and R&D plans.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • 1. BS degree in Optical Engineering or equivalent, MS degree a plus
  • 2. 5+ years of experience required, however will consider strong candidates with less than 5 years.
