San Jose, Calif. – GES Inc., a semiconductor equipment engineering-service company, today announced the addition of Dr. Dan Maydan, retired President of Applied Materials, and Julien Nguyen, Managing Partner of Concept Venture to its Board of Advisors.
“It is both an honor, and a validation of our business model, to have such distinguished executives on our board of advisors.  We plan to fully leverage their vision, experience, and expertise as we continue to strengthen GES’ position in the marketplace.  Along with our growing list of the world’s largest OEM customers, this is further affirmation of the increasing demand for equipment outsourced services, to deliver solutions to meet customers’ business needs and priorities. "said Don Tran, the company’s chief executive officer.

Dr. Maydan is a renowned technological pioneer and a champion of the semiconductor industry.   He spent more than 25 years at Applied Materials.  From 1994 to 2003, he served as president of the Company and during this time Applied became the world's leading semiconductor equipment manufacturer.  Dr. Maydan led the development of the Precision 5000(R), a revolutionary single-wafer processing system that the Smithsonian Institution includes as part of its collection of technologies that have helped shape society and the modern world.  He has been a member of the Applied Material's Board of Directors from 1992 -2006.
Dr. Maydan commented on the company, “The GES model of equipment engineering partnering is fundamental to the evolution of OEM business models throughout the entire hi-tech space.  It is not just enabling for semiconductor equipment, but also FPD, Disc-drive, solar and nanotechnology equipment.  Without this type of shared-cost basis, the end customer will be demanding more than the OEM can afford to provide.  GES is poised to capture major position in the market.”
Prior to Applied Materials, Dr. Maydan spent 13 years managing new technology development at Bell Laboratories. Dr. Maydan holds a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Physics from Edinburgh University in Scotland. He has also been awarded Honorary Doctorates from the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology and National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu Taiwan, republic of China. Dr. Maydan was awarded Doctor honoris causa from Edinburgh University in Scotland. Dr. Maydan has been awarded 200 plus patents, is also the recipient of the first ever "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) organization, and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.  In February 2005, Dr. Dan Maydan was inducted into the Engineering Hall of Fame.

Mr. Julien Nguyen has 25 years of operational, entrepreneur and early stage information technology investment experience.  He led investments for Applied Materials Ventures and Concept Ventures in companies such as Infinera (Nasdaq: INFN), M-Stream (acquired by Broadcom), Devicescape, Grandis, Takumi, Envision, PixelOptics, with co-investors including August Capital, Benchmark, Carlyle, Delphi, Kleiner Perkins, Matrix Partners, Sevin Rosen, Sigma Partners.  Julien Nguyen founded Applied Materials Ventures in 2001 and Concept Ventures in 2005, and has focused his investments on early stage startups in digital media, communications, semiconductors, software and services.

“Vietnam offers a globally competitive cost base, a strong educated workforce and provides an excellent geographical advantage for establishing customer service center in Asia.  GES has formed the perfect match, at the right time, with the global growing demands for more talented engineers and high-tech technical supports.” said Julien.

Prior to his venture capital activities, Julien has been a distinguished and accomplished technology entrepreneur.  Julien founded or was part of the founding team for four startups: Ezlogin (acquired by 724 Solutions), Novita Communications (acquired by Planetweb), E-Motions (acquired by Sigma Designs), Radius (IPO).  Julien earned a Master of Science degree from Ecole Polytechnique in France (X77) and a Post Graduate degree from Telecom Paris. Mr. Nguyen holds 21 patents granted in the US.  Julien serves on the board of Envision, Grandis, Takumi, and Sigma Designs (NASDAQ:SIGM).
